FULL DAY BELLAVISTA CLOUD FOREST & TANDAYAPA LOWER VALLEY BIRDING TOUR

This tour offers an immersive experience in Ecuador’s rich avian diversity and breathtaking cloud forest ecosystems.
Location & Overview:
Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve & Lower Tandayapa Valley
- Highlights: Stunning hummingbird diversity known as the “Hummingbird Capital of the World”, featuring dazzling iridescent hummingbirds, lush and misty forests, clear rivers, and dramatic landscape.
- Habitats: Subtropical Cloud Forest
- Location: Northwest Andes, Upper and Lower Tandayapa Valley (~1.5 hours from Quito), part of the Andean Chocó Biosphere Reserve. Elevation ranges from 5576-7872 feet above sea level.
- Biodiversity: ~300 bird species, prime spot for the Plate-billed Mountain-Toucan (known for its loud calls and tongue rattle).
KEY BIRDING SPOTS
1. Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve
- Target birds: Plate-billed Mountain Toucan, Toucan Barbet, Tanager Finch, Ocellated Tapaculo, White-faced Nunbird, Gorgeted Sunangel, Violet-tailed Sylph, Powerful Woodpecker, Golden headed and Crested Quetzal, and more.
2. Alambi Hummingbird Reserve
- Target birds: White-capped Dipper, Pacific Hornero, Brown Inca, White-booted Raquet-tail, Velvet-purple Coronet, White-necked Jacobin, Green-crowned Brilliant, Black-capped, Silver-throated, Blue-necked and Flame-rumped Tanager, Red-headed Barbet, and others.

By late afternoon, you’ll be transported back to your hotel or the airport in Quito, concluding your birding expedition.
Tour Logistics:
- 5:00 AM pick-up from Quito hotel/airport
- Late afternoon drop-off in Quito.
Recommended Gear
- Warm layers (mornings are cold at mountain forest).
- Binoculars & camera (hummingbirds, toucans and tanagers are a highlight!).
- Waterproof gear (cloud forest weather can change quickly).
- Sunscreen and hat.
